Don’t Just Say You Have Read Books

Don’t just say you have read books. Show that through them you have learned to think better, to be a more discriminating and reflective person. Books are the training weights of the mind. They are very helpful, but it would be a bad mistake to suppose that one has made progress simply by having internalized their contents.

~ Epictetus, (The Art of Living: The Classical Manual on Virtue, Happiness and Effectiveness)

How many people do you know that read a biography, inspirational, and personal development book and do nothing with what they have read?

Have they used their time, and the resource the best they can?

Do you think they would be happy going to the gym and not achieving anything?

I’m guessing that they wouldn’t.

Yet, this is literally what they are doing when they read a book, and don’t change.

Maybe it is time for us all to start looking at books differently.
