You Can’t Do That

How often are we told we can’t do something?

When our kids ask us why, how often do we respond with “because I said so”?

How do you think they would react if you suggested that they shouldn’t do something, and explained the reasons why?

The same goes with adults.

Instead of telling us we can’t do something.

Explain why, what the consequences are, and leave the decision up to us.

Taking away our ability to make up our own mind is the easiest way to make sure we do whatever it is we aren’t supposed to do.

Think about it, how many people will see a sign that says “Wet Paint. Do Not Touch”, and touch whatever it is, just to see if the paint actually is wet?
