A worthwhile practice I came across some time ago was to do things as if someone is looking over your shoulder watching you.
For me, the deeper I get into the philosophy of Stoicism, the more that I am encouraged to respond to things in a way that the Stoic teachers would be happy with if they were looking over my shoulder.
While there are times where my son is there, for those times that he isn’t, these teachers are there.
While I am a long way off from becoming a sage, I am improving every day.
It is very rare that the same thing will get the same reaction out of me twice.
This is because, after the first time, I have someone looking over my shoulder letting me know how to do things better the next time.
And this helps me become a better person.
Do you have someone looking over your shoulder?
